A truly wild & technicolor wild flower meadow at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham

Hot and cool blending in this swathe of wild flower meadow at St Mary's University, Twickenham Campus. Just driving along between appointments and had to pull over to admire the display - as had other people too. A real treat and welcome break, especially as temperatures topped 25C this afternoon.

Dahlias, Alliums, some fine ceramics and much, much more… a Petersham Miscellany!

A glance, gander and glimpse of Chelsea 2014

What can I add to the sum of the coverage of this, the greatest flower show on earth? A  few photographs (and by my standards, a very few). An impression of the event, distilled from a tour yesterday evening.  A drop in the ocean really - a few gorgeous plants and planting combinations, a twist…

A London City Break – Greenery in the City/Neal’s Yard, Ed’s Diner, Miss Saigon, The Groucho Club, The Mighty Boosh, National Portrait Gallery, Trafalgar Square and a Blue Cockerel……

A London City Break  - and I can only think of including a photograph of Neal's Yard as a way of justifying any mention in these horticulturally-led pages - for an oasis it was, where greenery and vegetation is otherwise very scarce. True, London has some excellent Parks - Hyde Park, Regents Park, St James'…

A new ‘old’ way with Wisteria and a very old Wisteria indeed – more from Kew Gardens

Wisteria floribunda Alba - near to the Duke's Garden within the larger Kew Gardens. We all know that Wisteria can clothe the front of a house with exceptional grace and beauty - and great vigour - elsewhere filling pergolas and arbours with colour and scent (and that reminds me that I am probably too late…

Petersham House – my first look at the gardens

Petersham House opened its gardens last Sunday (part of the National Garden Scheme) and this was my first opportunity to have a look around. I've glimpsed tree and blossom from behind high walls and hedges, and through the iron gates into the Kitchen Garden, but this was more like it! I'll let the photos do…

A new Bronze Age

My bronze (copper with a little tin) trowel from Implementations - which I bought at an RHS Spring Show a couple of years ago. Yet to be used, though prompted by a tweet I saw, I think I should start using it - and the matching hand fork I picked up at the same time.…

A little slice of Petersham – and a little announcement

Antique urn with Hellebore Pirouette, Muehlenbeckia and moss.. A new delivery of some very old things! The delicious red-flowering standard camellia is very Alice in Wonderland The cutting border - the bulbs are coming through and I can't wait to see what buried treasure we have here. The border will develop through the year providing…

Henry Moore at RHS Wisley

The King and Queen on a rare visit to the RHS gardens at Wisley The white Henry Moore Arch at the top of Battleston Hill has disappeared, to be replaced by some seated royalty at the top of the Lily Pond. I saw these beautiful figures last at Hatfield House. There was much, much more…
