I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas… Hellebores, Tulips, Amaryllis, Anemones, Narcissus, Moth Orchids, Jasmine…

Plenty of choice here if you are looking to furnish your home and compliment a winter garden with white-flowering lovelies - tulips of course will be flowering outside next Spring but here is a taster of things to come. Paperwhite narcissus are properly in bloom now and fragrant they are too - next Spring look…

Gilded Trees – Ginkgo biloba and Parrotia persica at Kew Gardens – liquid gold, ruby & emerald

Ginko biloba - the prehistoric Maidenhair Tree, with a weeping form which is even more of an absolute gold mine, still, with generally larger leaves and longer leaf-stalks than its upright neighbours. Parrotia persica (below) gold with flashes of red and emerald. and finally, a Grandstand Wisteria... Just half an hour today at Kew Gardens…

Red Sky at night (geddit?)

Another satellite dish of a Hibiscus, this time a rich brick-red. The same family as the white/blush pink cultivar I posted about a few days ago, and I was rather smitten with that one. That affair is over. My heart belongs to this one now. Here it is in shaft of sunlight -

Hydrangeas and the Art of Dying Gracefully

Bright…

A whole lot of floristry going on…

First, something deceptively simple and then something properly simple - a classier take on the jam jar in fact! In the large display, there's a haze punctuated by borage and poppy, crocosmia, ammi majus, veronicastrum, leucanthemum - anthemis too I think - echinops, sanguisorba and ... Lovely.

Rococo – just the most flamboyant, frilled, flame-coloured Tulip

Tulip Rococo An early, short-ish tulip, in volcanic shades of scarlet, crimson, cerise and orange. Frilled, puckered and alternately silky-sheeny-shiny and matt, with yellow, green and black, for good measure. The carnival outfit for the outspoken plant in Little Shop of Horrors. An excellent variety for a container - these are in a quite shallow…

Wisteria billowing, Hawthorn blooming, Tulips flourishing – my day in seven photographs
