Mahonia x media Charity
Well, actually, I know that the two close-ups are the named variety Charity – the other photograph was taken in the Woodland Garden at Kew and was too far into the border for me to make out a label. I’m certain there was one – they are sticklers for labelling but then, as with the salvias I photographed madly last week, the plants sometimes grow madly too, and their name tags are hidden.
Further reading suggested below – for me, I’ve home-made apple pie to enjoy (sweetened with Lady Emma Hamilton rose petal syrup)
From Plant Heritage – the history of this cultivar at The Savill Garden, containing the National Collection of Mahonia and the original ‘Charity’ to boot!
