Things that caught my eye today – Ideas to brighten up the garden in July, August and beyond ….

Firstly a few from home this evening - I'm particularly pleased with the lilies in the front garden, wafting their intoxicating fragrance for weeks now - and the bright blue Campanula Blue Octopus, flowering for over a month. Then (below) more from my day at Petersham Nurseries. Plenty of colour as we move into midsummer…

Mottisfont Abbey – a look back at the rose gardens in June 2014 (It’s raining again in 2016)

Set by the banks of the crystal River Test, cutting through the chalk downland, sits Mottisfont Priory, dating to the 13th Century and with a colourful history right up to the 20th Century with Maud and Gilbert Russell bringing life again to the old house and the National Trust subsequently taking the House and Gardens…

Another peak at Petersham Nurseries …

A montage of a few pictures I took on Sunday at Petersham Nurseries - the display carts I'd refreshed and 'replanted' as well as the perennial and rose benches. The tangerine, apricot and gold blooms on the last few standards of rose Lady Emma Hamilton still make me swoon with their fragrance of ripe peach,…

A few things that caught my eye today – Petersham Nurseries – flower therapy and a quote from Cabaret, what more do you need?

Flower therapy, this. From Petersham Nurseries today.  To quote from Cabaret - 'Leave your troubles outside, So- life is disappointing? Forget it! We have no troubles here! Here life is beautiful... ' After this you can go back to Brexit/Conservative Leadership/Chilcot Report/Euro 2016/24HourNews/Emails... 'What good's permitting some prophet of doom To wipe every smile away…

RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2016 (or not…)

A Grand Day Out yesterday at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show - the largest annual flower show in the world. But - shock upon horror upon more shock - I photographed very little of it! There is so much of it, had I clicked merrily away I might still be there and certainly…

A refresher first – and later this week, a return to the remarkable rose gardens at David Austin, Albrighton

2 acres of paradise? david austin roses at their albrighton nursery & gardens – the best display in years methinks! This comment and these photos were from June last year - one of the hottest days of the year but following a decidedly cool Spring. I'm preparing to head back there this Thursday to see…

Looking back – An amazing A -Z of Japanese Acers at RHS Chelsea

Another gallery from the greatest flower show on earth, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016 - though these beauties are pretty leafy customers (name tag/photo/name tag/photo  and so on...) All of these were displayed by Norfield Nurseries on their superb exhibit and a great grand woodland show it was. Green, red and gold, fine cut…

Lilies, Peruvian (that’ll be Alstroemerias) and otherwise – and enough Gladioli to tickle Dame Edna – a riot of colour as we look back at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Lilies in the Great Marquee at the 2016 RHS Chelsea Flower Show - a grand stand exhibit put together by Cheshire Nursery, Harts in Congleton. A display of cut flowers in perfect condition (the chill week no doubt helped keep them at their peak). http://www.hartsnursery.co.uk/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/3338336/Gilded-lilies.html http://www.hwhyde.co.uk/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/11730860/The-trouble-with-lilies-fabulous-but-fickle.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXeTaB5M868 Gladioli, below, are making a comeback…

Lavender blue, dilly dilly – and white, pink, green, mauve, violet (more from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Downderry Nursery)

Downderry Nursery in Kent are magicians when it comes to Lavender - with a collection of over 400 varieties and a breeding program bringing new cultivars to market.  Their Gold medal exhibit at Chelsea was a huge wheel of colour and fragrance - and in my haste to capture as many individual varieties in detail,…
