Looking up from a near horizontal position in my new zero-gravity recliner this evening – half hidden by these glorious bamboos – Phyllostachys nigra, (the Black Bamboo), Phyllostachys aurea (the Golden Bamboo) and at the back, Pseudosassa japonica. They have loved the mild wet winter and put on some stonking growth. I’ve thinned this, a little, and cleaned up the stems, removing much of the side-growth, making it all a little more manageable, and magical.
There are beauties – and beasts – amongst the great variety of bamboo available. Best to do a little research before you introduce one into your garden. These three are vigorous, but in my garden at least, not beastly and are commonly available.
