Join our family celebrations, a festivity of ten years
Petersham Nurseries turns 10 this year and in celebration, owners The Boglione Family will be hosting a long weekend of events, open to the community and in honour of all those who have played a part in this most eclectic and beautiful of businesses. The festivities will incorporate the many elements of Petersham Nurseries and favour everything they hold dear.
Festivities will begin in the restaurant with two consecutive 10th Anniversary Supper Clubs on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June. As the sun sets over Petersham, dinners will be invited to settle at antique tables bathed in candlelight and adorned with freshly blossoms from the cutting garden. The menu inspired from the garden will be written by Lucy Boyd in collaboration with kitchen team to showcase the exceptional produce for which Petersham Nurseries Café is renowned.
Thursday afternoon marks the launch of our Petersham Nurseries 10th Anniversary Garden Party Tea Blend. We have teamed up with Canton Tea, supplier of the fabulous fine loose leaf tea in our Teahouse, to create our own delicious herbal tea. This tea will be officially launched at a celebratory Tea Tasting event with Jennifer Wood, founder of Canton Tea who will be unveiling this beautiful blend and talking you through the subtle flavours.
Alongside the Supper Club, Friday night will also see corks popping in the shop as Petersham Nurseries buyers Ronny de Koning and Giselle McCarthy invite visitors to enjoy a sparkling aperitif as they browse their latest discoveries in peace of early evening. They will be offering a free personal shopping service and exclusive discounts throughout both the shop and nursery for the night.
On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th, the grounds are opened up and visitors invited to pick up a Petersham picnic and gather on the lawn of Petersham House Garden where they will be entertained by intriguing characters from Petersham Playhouse shows and live music. Two competitions will also be held over the birthday weekend, starting on Saturday with the ‘Best Rose Bouquet’ and concluding on Sunday with the ‘Best Edible Bouquet’.
The horticultural team will be hosting free gardening events too. On Friday 6th June the team will deliver their first ever evening event: ‘An Introduction to the World of Roses’. Resident rose expert, Martin Ogden, will guide a fascinating and informative talk, focusing on the British love for old-fashioned roses. The following morning, the team all roll up their sleeves and in an event for children of all ages, digs in for a few happy hours making Seed Balls. Approximately 1cm in diameter, making them especially easy to scatter, the seed balls encourage a garden to burst with native wildflowers, bees and beautiful butterflies. Sunday sees Ronny de Koning – florist and stylist tasked with developing and maintaining the beauty of Petersham Nurseries – share his creative flair with a demonstration on wild summer planting.
Celebrations culminate in Petersham Nurseries 10th Anniversary Summer Party. Commencing with live music and theatre, drinks and canapés on the lawn of Petersham House, the festivities will be followed by a three-course dinner at Petersham Nurseries Café, showcasing the Bogliones’ favourite summer dishes paired with fine wines from the Petersham Cellar collection. Entertainment by Petersham Playhouse and dancing in the Petersham House ballroom will round up this evening spectacular.
