The Teddington Gardener

Pink is the new Orange

Having been told this week by a customer that ‘they never knew they liked orange so much‘, (there were lots of Ballerina tulips this spring, and much Geum in flower in her garden now), I think it is time to consider my ‘relationship’ with Orange.

Maybe not give it up – the gorgeous David Austin rose (DAR), Pat Austin, is in flower and I shall be posting a picture of this. And what about Lady Emma Hamilton, just getting into her stride. Hard to kick the habit… I shall call this an interlude then, a shout from the pink corner. For Balance.

I do feel a little disingenuous as they are mostly David Austin roses pictured – all beautiful – but one of their aims is to expand the colour palette that, typically for Classic Old Roses, is very limited – and here we are in pink livery. But such variation of shade and shape – and fragrance! Modern classics, many.
