Such an extravagant place, Petersham Nurseries, a short walk across the water meadows from the River Thames, near Richmond. Items of immense beauty, artisan crafts and heights of sheer luxury – cheek by jowl with plunder from the skips of the Mediterranean and all conjured up into a heady mix of bohemian rapture.
It never fails to lift my spirits, a visit to this place, and I hope you can see why from these photographs. Unusually I have focused more on the interior displays – the ‘shop’ was quieter than the plant nursery and both were less crowded than the cafe!
I don’t often buy anything here, you understand.., soup sometimes. Though I did find three big specimens of Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle there last summer which were so glamorous and, dare I say it, cheap!
A cross between Clifton Nurseries, Anthropologie, Portobello Road, an old country house walled garden, Rue St. Honoré and/or any reclamation yard, with a great cafe.
