Twice in a Blue Moon with Ice Cream

The rather cryptic headline simply names these two roses, (I'll leave you to guess which is which), found while visiting Hill Park Roses (although there is no hill and being by the side of the busy Kingston by-pass, little likelihood of a park either, but I digress..). An old-fashioned family run nursery with ramshackle buildings,…

Golden Celebration

Bright blue skies and morning sunshine (I know, I know - unsettled later) but just now, with the morning chorus and fresh coffee brewing, the promise of a lovely day. Golden Celebration seems appropriate. A large shrub or short climber and big flowers with a strong fruity fragrance, from David Austin (introduced 1992).

Patience will be rewarded

The first decent bloom at Syon.Darcey Bussell tried hard, but a poor first attempt, and the solitary flower from Kew Gardens, well!Good things come to those who wait.

David Austin’s 2013/14 introductions

No photographs yet, but I am reliably informed that my order has been placed for the four new varieties being launched at RHS Chelsea Flower Show next week. What timing! Sadly, no Cheslea ticket for me, though I have set the video to record each hour-long daily BBC show, Monday through Saturday next week. Just…
