I’ll let the photos do the talking for this piece – Dale Chihuly back at Kew Gardens – last visiting in 2006 if memory serves and a welcome return. Several locations across the gardens and I don’t think I saw them all. There is an exhibition of smaller pieces in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery, so absolutely must go back soon to see those too.

I took in the large piece outside the Palm House, the Water Lily House, the Mediterranean landscape where the Judas Tree, Cercis siliquastrum was quite equal to the glass, having admired the Laburnum Arch behind the Palace, and the Broadwalk double borders.

The Japanese Garden and the Chokushi-mon, back to the Cherry Tree borders, underplanted with tulips in long grass and the Temperate House before calling it a day. I’d cycled over for the 8am Member’s early opening time, which goes on all through the summer, so I could have the place pretty much all to myself. The Glasshouses don’t open until 10am mind you, even so I was the only person in the Temperate House during my visit, just the staff, watering and working.

If you do get the chance, this is an admirable addition to gardens which are in themselves quite breathtaking. More to explore – I missed out the Rhododendron Walk and the Bluebell Woods, so reason enough to plan a return visit myself. I hope you enjoyed the tour.
