Rain, rain and more rain, yesterday - persistent and accompanied by chill winds too. Considering the balmy temperatures of the previous day it was quite a shock to the system! It did, however, provide an opportunity for some picture taking with the advantage of some photogenic rain drops...

Quando Fioriranno Le Rose – Assisi
Another substantial gallery (the last from my Italian adventure) featuring the remarkable rose garden and nursery in Assisi, Umbria - Quando fioriranno le Rose - owned and managed by Paola and Fabio Bianchi - and where I attended a recent pruning course run by Richard Stubbs from David Austin roses. There are more than two…
Orange and indigo… stunning flowers for an Autumn celebration
Autumn Rose Care….
The David Austin rose, Constance Spry, here, winding and spiralling around some birch posts forming a substantial wigwam/obelisk in the Cutting Garden at Petersham Nurseries. Looking forward to my rose-themed workshop tomorrow and hoping that the rain will have rained all it can overnight. A little sunshine would be very welcome!
Practical Classes in Rose Pruning
Already halfway through here - I began yesterday afternoon but didn't have my camera with me, so the full extent of the transformation will be a little understated. A new bed of roses…
All ready for a new planting of roses - Iceberg all - later this autumn. If it is good enough for the American Ambassador's residence in Regent's park…

A central crown of golden & red stamens, very like Jacqueline du Pre, lifts an already attractive flower to greater beauty. Here…

A Royal Landscape – The Savill Garden in late summer
The Savill Garden is a wonder, 35 acres of woodland and ornamental gardens all within the Royal Landscape of Windsor Great Park. There are displays for every season and just now, the herbaceous borders within the Summer Gardens are just gorgeous and, for another post, the hydrangeas in The Glades too. Complete your visit with…

Three beauties from David Austin…
Another flush of roses, possibly the last of the summer and for that, very much appreciated and admired. Many of the David Austin flock will have begun flowering in late May, this year at least, and will still have an abundant show left in them before the needs for a little quiet-time assert themselves and…
