  1. Dear Martin , I bought a Gentiana Devonhall last week at the Harrogate Flower Show with the idea of planting it in my scree garden , I see on the label it says that it is best in a lime free soil . My soil is neutral so should I plant in a hole enriched with ericaceous compost or should I grow in a pot sunken in the ground ? Although I was told it is hardy would it be better in a cold grrnhouse over the winter?
    Look forward to your reply

    1. Hi there and apologies for the lateness of my reply! I would try it out on your neutral soil, as the benefit of adding ericaceous compost to the planting hole would have a limited effect. Best in the ground, it is fully hardy and wouldn’t need the protection of a glasshouse at all. Good drainage is essential. Best wishes Shirley and thank you for contacting me and looking at the blog. Martin
