Piet Oudolf Borders at RHS Wisley

Echinacea purpurea Rubinglow and Echinacea purpurea Green Edge Here, at the top of the border near The Mount, it is a battle between the Echinacea Rubinglow and Green Edge, though the balance is far in the favour of plummy purple cultivar. Allium seed heads provide some contrast too. The ground here, as well as being…

Astrantia Gill Richardson

Some very good reviews of this Astrantia - deep rich colouring, long lasting, free flowering. I've planted 'Roma' in various gardens and am happy to recommend it, though the colour, in the warm weather we have had these past few weeks, has washed out more quickly than I would have liked. This cultivar looks like…

Variations on a theme – blue & orange

Summer Song with Agapanthus Northern Star Orange and blue, again, though this time the star attraction is another David Austin rose, Summer Song. A rangy plant with arching growth and flowers of a strong burnt orange colour, reminiscent, they say, of a tropical sunset. Sigh.

A new direction for Delphiniums…

Three colours blue, orange and purple

A Moroccan influence here I think - tangerine rose Lady Emma Hamilton, deep blue Agapanthus Northern Star, Lythrum Robin and Veronica Purplicious. The colours sing out in this combination. Now where can I use this...?

The flower bracts the are pale green in early summer, turning white from July to August, finally darkening to pink before falling in September. For largest possible…

Midnight Blues

Agapanthus Midnight Star It didn't take long for this stand of agapanthus to attract some wildlife, though I am ashamed to say that I don't know the name of this visitor. How about Geraldine? Clearly there is some reward in these tightly closed flower-buds and the butterfly has the apparatus to collect. Nature, amazing.
