The Japanese Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Beautiful here in mid-winter, with sculpted box, evergreen waves of Liriope muscari, flowering Iris unguicularis, clipped Pachysandra terminalis, Cotoneaster and Callicarpa in berry, a few choice Chaenomeles flowers, beautifully spreading Winter Cherry - Prunus subhirtella Autumnalis, sunshine and raked gravel. http://www.kew.org/heritage/places/japaneselandscape.html

Just pictures, for now, of this fascinating Arts and Crafts Garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Such a magical place and combining the best of all worlds - a cultivated garden amid so much wild beauty.
Gales and driving rain. It won't be good for the cherry blossom. In parks, on pavements and roads - a knee-deep lava flow of tissue-thin pink and white petals. I know Cherry Blossom Time is an ephemeral display, but does it have to be blasted off the branches. So soon? Oh well, what's next?
